Website Terms & Conditions

Last updated: October 9, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Murmurate website and the Murmurate carbon calculator. By using them, you agree to be bound by these terms.

01 | Agreement to our legal terms

We are Murmurate Digital Limited ("Murmurate", "we", "us" or "our"), a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (company number 17177523). We operate the website at www.murmurate.digital (the "Site"), including the Murmurate carbon calculator and decarbonisation suite, and any other related products and services that refer or link to these legal terms (together, the "Services").

You can contact us by email at info@murmurate.digital or by post to Castleton Barn, Clifford, Hereford HR3 5HF, United Kingdom.

These legal terms are a legally binding agreement between you, whether personally or on behalf of an entity ("you"), and Murmurate Digital Limited, covering your access to and use of the Services. By accessing the Services you agree that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by all of these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Services.

02 | Our Services

The Services include a professional-grade carbon calculator for measuring an organisation's greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. The calculator is free for small and medium-sized enterprises with 500 or fewer employees, and available to purchase for larger enterprises under a separate agreement. For small and medium-sized enterprises the free calculator includes calculating Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, annual recalculation, and viewing, downloading, exporting and sharing your results, without usage limits. Optional features, such as supply-chain engagement tools, may be paid for beyond any free allowance. Before you are asked to pay, we tell you that the feature is optional, chargeable and offered by Murmurate.

One account, optional connections and sharing. Your Murmurate account is held by Murmurate. It can also be reached through Mycelium, a service run by Mycelium Network Ltd, so that one login works for both. You can also choose, separately and at the time, to (a) publish or send your organisation's footprint to a disclosure platform, such as the public disclosure platform run by Mycelium Network Ltd, or others we add later, and (b) share selected data with other organisations on the Services. Before you switch any of these on, we tell you who will receive what, and why. Each is optional, off by default and never a condition of using the Services. Section 7 explains how they work, and a disclosure platform's own terms also apply to it.

Support. If you ask for support or join the community forum run by Equipoise Earth Ltd, that service is provided by Equipoise under its own terms.

You are responsible for complying with applicable local laws in your jurisdiction.

03 | Intellectual property rights

All intellectual property rights in our Services, including source code, databases, functionality, software, website designs and all content, are owned by or licensed to Murmurate Digital Limited. Use of our Services grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence for your own personal or internal business use. You keep your rights in the data you enter into the calculator and the results it produces, and we acquire no ownership of them.

04 | User representations

By using our Services, you warrant that all registration information you submit is accurate and current, that you will not access the Services through unauthorised means, and that you are at least 18 years of age.

05 | User registration

You may be required to register an account to use some parts of the Services. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and you accept responsibility for all activity under your account. Your account can be reached through your Murmurate login or your Mycelium login, and you are responsible for activity under it through either.

06 | Prohibited activities

You agree not to use the Services for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws. You may not:

  • systematically retrieve data or other content from the Services to create a database without our written permission;
  • trick, defraud or mislead us or other users, including by attempting unauthorised access to sensitive information;
  • circumvent, disable or interfere with security features of the Services;
  • use bots, scripts or other automated means without authorisation;
  • enter data you know to be false or misleading with the intention of publishing it as a genuine footprint; or
  • use the Services in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation.

07 | Your data, disclosure and sharing

7.1You are responsible for the accuracy of the activity data, figures and other content you enter into the calculator.

7.2We use your data only to provide the Services and as set out in our Privacy Policy. We do not share it except as the Privacy Policy describes.

7.3If you choose to publish a footprint, or send it to a disclosure platform, you give Murmurate and the operator of that platform (named when you make the choice) a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence, for as long as it stays published or sent, to host and display the content you selected on that platform and, where the choice screen says so, to make it available to others through data products and APIs, including for a fee.

7.4You can stop at any time. When you do, the licence ends for future use and we ask the operator to remove the content. Copies already delivered to others before then may remain with them.

7.5Each destination needs your separate choice. Choosing one never switches on another, and a destination we add later receives nothing until you choose it. Publishing and sending are optional, are never switched on by default and are never a condition of using the Services. You can see the current destinations in your account settings.

7.6Sharing with other organisations. If you share data with another organisation on the Services, you choose the organisation and the data. You give that organisation a non-exclusive licence to use what you share only for the purpose for which you shared it. It must not publish it or pass it on without your permission. You can stop sharing at any time; copies already seen or downloaded before then may remain with that organisation. We are not responsible for what another organisation does with data you share with it.

7.7If an organisation shares data with you on the Services, you may use it only for the purpose for which it was shared, you must not publish it or pass it on without that organisation's permission, and you must stop using it when it stops sharing.

08 | Third-party websites and content

The Services may link to third-party websites or display third-party content. Murmurate Digital Limited is not responsible for the accuracy or legality of third-party websites or content accessed through the Services.

09 | Privacy and cookies

Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal data, and our Cookie Policy explains the cookies we use. Please read both.

10 | Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If a dispute arises, the parties agree to attempt informal negotiation before pursuing other forms of dispute resolution.

11 | Modifications and interruptions

We may change the Services, including adding, altering or removing features. If we plan to discontinue the calculator offered to you through a referring programme, we will give you at least three months' written notice and the chance to retrieve your data and results. We may update these terms from time to time; the updated version takes effect when it is posted on this page. If a change affects how we use your data, we will tell you as set out in our Privacy Policy.

12 | Disclaimer

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including those of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Emission factors and calculated figures are provided in good faith from recognised, published sources, and you remain responsible for any reporting or disclosure you make in reliance on them.

13 | Limitations of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Murmurate Digital Limited shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages resulting from your use of the Services. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.

14 | Electronic communications

By using the Services, you agree to receive communications from us electronically, including consent to agreements, notices and disclosures in electronic form.
